Easter egg hunt

The annual Dorchester Park Easter egg hunt will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 at the park, 2174 Dorchester Ave. Kids should bring their own baskets to collect hidden eggs. Read across the USA

Children’s entertainer Judy Pancoast will be the guest performer from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 at the Adams Street Branch Library, 690 Adams St. Kids can make their way out from Maine across the U.S. on a road trip that includes upbeat songs, interaction, dancing and a great geography lesson. Pancoast will engage children in a musical literary adventure taking them from “Make Way for Ducklings” in Boston, to “Balto” in Alaska and everywhere in between. Groups must e-mail to register. Mothers of freedom

The Adams Street Branch Library, 690 Adams St., will present “Mothers of Freedom” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April. 22. This free program explores the vital role played by Boston’s African American women and their allies in the struggle for social justice and equality in the years preceding the Civil War. It will look at the critical role that these women played on the Underground Railroad, in the abolition movement and in the fight for civil rights. Taste of Dorchester

The Massachusetts Affordable Housing Alliance will host the 11th annual Taste of Dorchester from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 at the IBEW Hall Local 103, 256 Freeport St. More than 25 local restaurants will offer a variety of Jamaican, Mexican, Cape Verdean, Irish, Italian, Indian, soul food and American dishes. Local ice cream and fair-trade coffee will be served. The jazz ensemble Sleeping Bee will provide live musical entertainment and there will be a silent auction, a cash bar, prizes and free parking Tickets are $50. Children under 6 are free. Gallery talk and workshop

The Edward M. Kennedy Institute, 210 Morrisey Blvd., will host “A Seat at the Table” gallery talk and workshop from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. Inspired by the career of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, visitors to the exhibit “A Seat at the Table” are invited to respond the Chisholm’s call to action “If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.” A special gallery talk will highlight the stories of national figures and community members who have brought new perspectives to the table where decisions are made. In a hands-on workshop, participants will have the chance to think about how they want to be represented in places of power and create their own “seat at the table” to contribute to the exhibit. The gallery talk and workshop are included in the admission cost. Massachusetts children, ages 17 and under, enter for free as well as active military personnel, current members and all children under 6. Earth Day celebrations

The community is invited to “Love Your Square” Earth Day celebrations in Codman Square at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 27. A group of organizations is sponsoring a block party with free food, music, a park clean-up and children’s parade. There will also be a tour or Nightingale Community Gardens. The day will begin with a clean-up from 9 to 11 a.m., with activities starting at 10 a.m. Allinergy, Dorchester Food Co-op, Greenovate Boston, Codman Square Neighborhood Council, Codman Square Health Center, Love Your Block Boston, Dorchester Art Project and others are sponsoring this free event. Healthy Kids Day

The Dorchester YMCA at 776 Washington St. will host a Healthy Kids Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
