Bird walk

Mass. Audubon’s Boston Nature Center at 500 Walk Hill St. will host a spring bird walk from 7 to 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 21. Participants will see resident birds and spring migrants at a unique urban habitat that is a favorite spot for many bird species. Local bird enthusiasts will lead the walk and help find and identify birds through field marks, sounds and behaviors. Birders of all levels are welcome on this gently paced walk. Folk music, open mic

A Roslindale open mic will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 22 at the Roslindale Congregational Church, 25 Cummins Hwy. Musical performances will begin at 7 p.m. At 9 p.m., husband and wife duo Leslie Lee and Steve Gretz will perform. The songs they write and sing are influenced by a variety of genres including folk, gospel, Americana and contemporary singer-songwriters. Folk singer Ben Blum will open the evening with a mini-set at 8:45 p.m. This is a family-friendly event, and donations for the guest performers are encouraged. A potluck supper will be served. Egg hunt

Roslindale Village Main Street’s annual Easter Egg hunt will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 20 at Healy Field, 50 Firth Road. Children, ages 2 to 6, may attend the hunt and should bring a basket or bag to collect eggs. Older children and families can join the egg toss and bunny hop races, with special prizes for the winning teams. There will also be arts and crafts, games, face painting, photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny, coffee and donuts and more. For more information, visit

Playwright at the library

Author, poet and playwright Jabari Asim, head of the creative writing program at Emerson College, will be the guest speaker at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 22 at the West Roxbury Branch Library, 1961 Centre St. Asim will discuss his book of essays, “We Can’t Breathe: On Black Lives, White Lies and the Art of Survival.” Copies of his books for children and adults will be on sale. Spring faculty concert

MusiConnects will host the spring faculty concert at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 at the Mattahunt Community Center, 100 Hebron St., Mattapan. The concert will feature lively and diverse music by Zoltan Kodaly and Gabriela Lena Frank, who respectively, draw upon Eastern European and Peruvian folk traditions in their work. Admission is free. Woodwinds at the library

Boston Philharmonic Orchestra in partnership with the Boston Public Library will present the MOSAIC (Musical Opportunities Supporting Arts in Communities) Concert Series from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 at the West Roxbury Branch Library, 1961 Centre St. MOSAIC concerts are free, fun and educational musical experiences for everyone. Each session includes discussion of the music, opportunities to ask questions, meet the musicians and a chance to try to play these instruments. This week will feature a woodwind quintet.
