Magnificent Maison Vernon penthouse has new owner
Maison Vernon is the pinnacle of luxury living in Boston. With seven opulent homes at 39-41 Mount Vernon St., sitting on top of this gem of a palace is the penthouse that sold for $15,110,000 on March 29.

Maison Vernon proudly shares its stately position at the top of Beacon Hill with the Massachusetts State House, located right across the street. The famed golden dome sits picture-perfect from the front windows of this exemplary building.

Originally built in 1917, 41 Mt. Vernon St. used to be home to the Unitarian Universalist Association’s Beacon Press. It is this press that first published Sen. Michael Gravel’s edition of the legendary Pentagon Papers in 1971. Before then, it was headquarters of the New England Watch and Ward Society, which began as the New England Society for the Suppression of Vice.

An extensive and meticulous complete renovation of these brand new condominiums is melding the past with the present. The homes at Maison Vernon are brimming with the finest materials and craftsmanship, including hand-carved Italian marble fireplace mantles, imported French oak chevron herringbone floors, handcrafted French-inspired plaster moldings and imported Italian kitchens.

All the walls are insulated and the floors are among the most solid you will find in a residential building. It is a superior mix of wellcrafted modern European interiors with incomparable grand American architecture.

The building’s façade has been fully restored to its time-honored beauty. Stepping  into the stunning art-curated lobby tells people that this is an exceptional place. A custom- commissioned wrought iron and glass elevator carries residents and guests up to the phenomenal homes.

The sumptuous penthouse will boast a massive 4,025 square feet of living space with five bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms on two floors.

The first level provides the proud new owners with a magnificent floor-through layout that includes three bedrooms, three-and-a-half bathrooms, an open living-dining-family room, kitchen, balcony and a 50-foot-wide expanse of south-facing windows.

Some might say the crème-de-la-crème of the penthouse is to be found on the grassy rooftop. Here, the new owners will enjoy an incredible retractable glass-opening structure that will feature yet another floor-through kitchen-dining-living room with a master bedroom-bathroom suite. This space is surrounded by pure outdoor living – an impressive balcony with a full top-of-the-line outdoor kitchen and el fresco dining area adjoining a terrace for additional seating and entertaining, a hot tub and fire pit – culminating in breathtaking 360-degree views of the State House, Boston Common, Charles River and beyond.

This home also includes two valet garage parking spots.

This property was originally listed by Beth Dickerson of Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty and purchased with Maria Ryan of Jacob Realty, LLC.
