FOCUS ON BACK BAY/MIDTOWN
Book sale

The Boston Public Library, 700 Boylston St., will host a used book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4.

The library will offer a great variety of gently used adult and juvenile books, audio-visual, DVDs and more at low prices. Proceeds will benefit the community programming of the library.

Photography tour

PhotoWalks will offer a walking tour of the Back Bay from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, meeting at the entrance to the Boston Public Library on Dartmouth Street.

Walkers will explore the Back Bay, an exclusive area known for its architectural icons in Copley Square and the elegant Victorian brownstones on picturesque streets. They will be able to spend time at each location to get impressive shots of Boston’s prominent landmarks.

Attendees can learn how to take photographs with instruction on creative composition and getting the most out of a digital camera.

Historical commentary on the sites will also be given.

Tickets are $40 for adults and $20 for youths, ages 10 to 17. Advance reservations are required.

Children’s movies

The Boston Public Library, 700 Boylston St., will screen movies for children and families from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sundays during August.

Screenings will include the musical “Annie” on Aug. 5; Disney’s “The Lion King” on Aug. 12; the animated feature “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” on Aug. 19 and the recent release “A Wrinkle in Time” starring Oprah Winfrey and Chris Pine on Aug. 26.

Admission is free.
