Traditional Chinese music

 

The Berklee College of Music’s Chinese Traditional Music Ensemble will perform in a free concert at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 at the South End Branch Library, 685 Tremont St.

 

The ensemble will perform “Where East Meets West” and answer questions from the audience in this family-friendly concert.

Winter festival

 

The fourth annual SoWa Winter Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2 at the SoWa Power Station, 540 Harrison Ave.

 

The weekend festival will feature more than 100 talented local artists showing off their one-of-a-kind handcrafted goods and treats. There will also be musical entertainment, workshops, a photo booth and more.

 

In addition, in the heated tent on Thayer Street, shoppers can enjoy live holiday music, mulled wine, hot chocolate and raclette cheese specialties. There will also be food trucks, face painting, live ice sculpting from noon to 2:30 p.m., as well as the galleries, artist studios and shops that call SoWa home year round.

 

Parking and admission is free.

Wine tasting, jazz concert

 

The Ellis South End Neighborhood will host the ninth annual Wine Tasting and Jazz Concert from 6:15 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the Berklee College of Music Performance Center, 136 Massachusetts Ave.

 

Attendees will meet in the Davis VIP Room at the Berklee Performance Center before the concert to taste “Jazzy Wines” chosen to match various jazz styles: big band, fusion, straight ahead, bebop and more. They will be paired with a selection of appropriate jazzy cheeses, pates and fruit chosen to complement these wines.

 

At 8 p.m., the Berklee Global Jazz Institute will perform inspired original jazz composition and arrangements by some of the most creative writers on campus.

 

Admission is $30 for members and $40 for non-members.
