Back to Bach

 

The South End Branch Library, 685 Tremont St., will present “Back to Bach: More J.S. Bach and Sonatas” at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.

 

Janet Fink, recorder, and Alastair Thompson on harpsichord, will perform selections by Bach in a free concert. For more details, call 617-536-8241.

 

Swedish Yuletide

 

The 33rd annual Swedish Yuletide celebrations will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Cyclorama, the Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont St.

 

This fair celebrates the holiday season with foods, crafts, gifts, musical entertainment and children’s activities. Unique gifts and designs, such as Sami-engraved crafts from Lapland, Scandinavian sweaters, home accessories, jewelry and books, will be on sale.

 

Children can make holiday decorations and catch treats in the fishing pond. Traditional foods including Swedish meatballs, salmon sandwiches, cakes, waffles, pastries, coffee and glogg, a spicy seasonal hot drink, will be available in the coffee shop. Musical entertainment will feature accordionist Dan Mackowiac, the SWEA Singers and students from the Swedish School of Boston performing familiar tunes.

 

The St. Lucia processions will begin at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $10. Children under age 13 are admitted free. Proceeds will benefit local charities and scholarship programs. For more information, visit www.boston.swea.org or call 877-799-8267.

 

Student recital

 

The Community Music Center of Boston, 34 Warren Ave., will present a student recital at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8

Holiday party

 

The Ellis South End Neighborhood Association will host its annual holiday party from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9 at Elephant Walk, 1415 Washington St.

 

Members, friends and guests can celebrate the holidays while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and holiday cocktails, wines and beers. Attendees are asked to bring an unwrapped toy for an Ellis Memorial child in need this season.
